I had a hard speed session on the track on Tuesday and was supposed to run a decent steady workout on Thursday but shortly into that one, my hamstring tightened up quickly and I quickly decided to bail on the second workout of the week. I wouldn't say it was a false alarm, but more of a warning shot.

On Saturday I changed up my weekend schedule so that I could run the Shawnee State Park "North Loop" with a friend. I think it was well worth the deviation from the plan. More vert and more mileage at a nice all-day pace.

Sunday I did something that I've never done in the 4 years of running as a masters runner. I ran without any type of tracking device! Yikes!

I was challenged by my coach to give it a shot and, though it felt completely foreign, I'm proud to say that I survived it. I'm a data kinda guy so this was really hard. The idea is that we can really get in touch with our running/selves by paying attention and using our own RPE (relative perceived effort) scale to determine how to perform our workouts.

I've tried to track my RPE with Strava for every run, but unfortunately Strava doesn't seem to surface that data in any particular useful way that I can see. Someday I might have to create some charts/graphs from the available API so I can check my own RPE calibration over time.

Anyway, I hit a high water mark on mileage this week, but didn't crack 70 like I had hoped. Next week for sure!

After being sick last week I really wanted to get after it, but my body was still not 100%. Sadly, I skipped the strength workouts. It was definitely still a good week of training and it ended with a bang: running 21 miles at Frozen Head State Park, TN.

Weekly Wrap (03/05)

I no longer have a perfect training block. I got sick this week and missed a workout and a 10 mile easy run. I've been around enough to know that this isn't the end of the world. Life happens and training doesn't get ruined by single missed workouts.
