I admit, this training is getting pretty tough, but then again, it's supposed to be. I have to ride the line between breaking my body down and recovering to get more fitness or break it down too much and have everything come apart. I think so far I'm riding the line pretty well.

I didn't get any strength work done this week. I had a very busy non-running schedule and was still suffering some symptoms of the head cold I caught last week. That sounds like an excuse and it probably is. I'll attempt to do better.

On a positive note, I did get a lifetime 10k PR during my Wednesday workout! Supposed to be 7 miles at a steady 7RPE and I was flabbergasted that even with a lingering cold my HR stayed consistently at 162-163 for 6+ miles. I'll celebrate that!

And last but certainly not least, I got to join a good group of friends on Saturday at Frozen Head State Park, famous home to the legendary Barkley Marathons, which happen to be going on right now!

You could tell something was about to happen when we got to the park on Friday. The trails are amazing and unlike anything we have in Cincinnati as far as feet per mile and sustained climbs. I feel very lucky to have the chance to run there. I will hopefully be going back someday.

I really enjoyed the day with friends, and could not stop thinking about how tough it would be to do an even harder route (without GPS) five times! No wonder only 15 people have ever finished that race.

Woods at Frozen Head

All-in-all a great week but still a little lower volume than I thought I'd be from a mileage standpoint.

I no longer have a perfect training block. I got sick this week and missed a workout and a 10 mile easy run. I've been around enough to know that this isn't the end of the world. Life happens and training doesn't get ruined by single missed workouts.
