If you really want to dive deep, read and look at some nice photos from the course, check out this course description (pdf) document directly from Aravaipa themselves. It's very good.

The route is approximately 251 miles, starting from near Black Canyon City and continuing all the way to Flagstaff. It has almost 39,500 feet of gain and 34,000 feet of loss. Personally, I've been to several of the locations on or near the course and I think going through some of the towns is an awesome aspect of this race. You don't get to do that in typical ultra races here in the US.

Of the places I've visited, Whiskey Row in Prescott is very cool, Jerome is an awesome hillside mining town turned into an art enclave, and Sedona is world renown. Finishing up in a running mecca like Flagstaff is icing on the cake. I can't wait to experience all of it.

The embedded map above was taken from the most recent GPX file provided by the race organizers but could be different by the time the race takes place. Last year they had to make significant adjustments to the course due to wildfires. Let's hope that doesn't happen again this year.

Mogollon Monster 100 Mile "warm-up" Race

The Mogollon Monster is a tough race that I'm hoping prepared me well for a taste of what I'll experience at the Cocodona 250. I'll share what I experienced and how I think it might help. We shall see.
